Drinking and Driving

You don't have to be drunk to be affected by alcohol. Nobody drives quite as well after drinking alcohol, even though some people may look and act as though they are unaffected. Alcohol is a depressant drug that affects most areas of the brain.

How drinking affects you

Your reaction time after three drinks is impaired by 2 - 4 times.
You experience tunnel vision, which means you do not notice things on the left or right. You have an inability to focus quickly. This means that the pupils of your eyes react very slowly to sudden changes of light, so that you are blinded by oncoming headlights.

Night blindness is definitely increased. It is quite obvious that with these physical changes to the body, driving a car is very unwise.

How it affects your insurance

Your insurance company has the right to refuse paying out any claim you make on your car insurance policy if you were found guilty of drunk driving.

You have committed an illegal act by driving under the influence and therefore the car insurance company has no obligation to meet your claim.
